Theatre show success!

Posted by Joe M. Turner | on June 30, 2008

The show at the Dallas Theatre last Saturday night was a great success. We sold out of all the tickets that had been made available for presale, and we had substantial walk-up sales, too! The management of the theatre is excited about the prospect of being the host venue for an annual show that I will probably produce to benefit a different charity each year.

Thank you to all of those who came out for supporting a worthy cause!

Kiawah Island 2008

Posted by Joe M. Turner | on June 17, 2008

Back in the villa after my first show at Kiawah Island Resort this season. Four years running, and it seems like more fun every year. The best thing about working here: the perks! Beautiful beaches, great food, and the great old city of Charleston. This is the one gig each year that becomes a true (working) vacation for my whole family and usually a family friend or two… an anchor point in our summer every year!

Atlanta Magician Turner to Appear at Dallas Theater to Benefit McKenna Farms

Dallas, GA, June 5, 2008 – Professional magician Joe M. Turner puts the “fun” in “fundraising” on Saturday, June 28, when he takes the stage at the Dallas Theater in a show with proceeds to benefit McKenna Farms, a non-profit provider of therapy services for special needs individuals. The public is invited to attend the family-friendly show which begins at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $5 per person, available in advance from McKenna Farms or at the door.

McKenna Farms Therapy Services was founded in 2001 and is directed by Jessica Moore. “This organization started as a dream 8 years ago,” says Moore. “And now it’s a special place for special kids. We need and appreciate community supporters like Joe, who understand how great our need is.”

“The Farm is a magical place all in itself,” explains Kerstin Liberty, who conceived and coordinated the benefit appearance. “I see miracles happen every time I am there with the children. It’s amazing to see what happens during the interaction between the horses, the patients, and the therapists. They make it easy to love volunteering for such a wonderful organization. McKenna Farms certainly deserves and appreciates the community’s support.”

“As a relative newcomer to this part of the metro area, I was actually looking for some places to plug in when I met Kerstin,” notes Turner, who built a new home in the northwestern suburbs last year. “Her enthusiasm for this organization is contagious and I’m just thrilled to be invited to help.”

Turner, a popular entertainer and speaker at corporate and private events across America, has also performed for church groups and charitable organizations in the United States, Canada and Europe. He is a repeat performer at top entertainment venues in Hollywood, Atlantic City, and New York City, and he was also featured in a CNN Headline News segment focusing on his application of magic to corporate marketing. Turner’s one-man cabaret show, Shenanigans, was cited as one of former Atlanta mayor Sam Massell’s top entertainment picks in an Atlanta Business Chronicle article.

For additional information on the show and for tickets, contact McKenna Farms Executive Director Jessica Moore at 770.443.9672, or McKenna Farms volunteer Kerstin Liberty at 678.983.3875.

Upcoming publication and conference appearance

Posted by Joe M. Turner | on June 2, 2008

A sleight-of-hand method I devised will be published in either the August or September issue of Genii Magazine. It is a new method for causing a finger ring to appear to penetrate off a cord onto which it has been laced. I performed this effect for Martin Gardner last year and fooled him, which is a source of no small pride for me!

This publication will happen at the same time as the 2008 Southeastern Association of Magicians convention (August 21-23 in Atlanta), a magicians-only conference at which I will be performing and lecturing.
